The Leiden Bio Science Park is attracting more interest from Asian countries looking for connections, technology and possible partners. InnovationQuarter and Leiden Bio Science Park had the honor of welcoming delegations from China, Thailand, South Korea and Taiwan from both government and commercial companies interested in making connections at the Leiden Bio Science Park. Warm contacts were made during visits to Bio USA and Bio Europe over the last few years and through other network connections.
Chinese and South Korean interest in Dutch life sciences cluster
From China, representatives of Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP) and InnovationQuarter were pleased to welcome Mrs. Wang Huiying, Deputy Minister of the Department of Trade in Services and Commercial Services (MOFCOM), Ministry of Commerce with her delegation to the Leiden Bio Science Park, the leading life sciences cluster in the Netherlands which ranks among the top five most successful science parks in Europe, and look forward to future collaboration.

Together with Dr. Young Choi, Assistance Professor, Natural Products Lab, Institute of Biology, InnovationQuarter was able to highlight the technology and research being done at the Leiden University on his extraction and research activities in metabolomics and natural products chemistry for the South Korean delegation from the Microbial Institute for Fermentation Industry (KRIBB), the Jeonbuk Provincial Government, Food and Agricultural Industry Division, Jeonbuk Institute for Food-Bioindustry (HKTDC) and Institute of Sunchang Fermented Soybean Products and take them on a tour of his laboratory.

Thailand and Taiwan visit West Holland?s Medical Delta
We welcomed the Northern Science Park and the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Science (TCELS), a dynamic public organization assisting startups and strengthening the life science sector in Thailand. InnovationQuarter and LBSP and TCELS? and Northern Science Park have a lot in common so it was helpful to exchange information, best practices and discuss the growth of the life science parks in our regions and how we can learn from each other.
We had the opportunity to host the Taiwanese Biotech delegation at the Leiden Bio Science Park. Due to the close ties with Taiwan, it was really about welcoming old friends and making new ones. InnovationQuarter and Leiden Bio Science Park and the Taiwan Biotech Association organized an informative program with speakers from both Taiwan and Netherlands.

Dr. Douwe Breimer, em Professor of Pharmacology and Former Rector Magnificus & President of Leiden University gave the opening remarks and warmly welcomed Dr.  Johnsee Lee, President of Taiwan Bio Industry Organization and the delegation 15 companies and 4 research institutes to the Leiden Bio Science Park.
The life science sector is important for both countries and can be even stronger when working together. Informative presentations from both the Netherlands Association of Innovative Medicines and Task Force Health Care (TFHC) and the Taiwan Bio Industry Organization was key to learning about the life science sector of each country. West Holland?s Medical Delta life science cluster and the Leiden Bio Science Park were also highlighted as the leading life sciences cluster in the Netherlands.

Michael Lai, Founder of Aeon Astron told about his positive experience in the Netherlands and the Leiden Bio Science Park and Pieter Gaillard, CEO of 2-BBB gave a warm account of his relationship with Taiwan from both the business and personal aspect. There were pitches of exciting new technologies from both Dutch and Taiwanese companies and plenty of time for networking and one on one meetings during the lunch.
After lunch the delegation visited Hal Allergy where CEO, Harry Flore gave a presentation on the activities of both Hal Allergy and Halix which resulted in lots of questions and mutual interests for follow up and to Ocello?s innovative 3D screening lab for diseased tissue models.
